Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma chaired a meeting in Guwahati to discuss issues related to the Village Defence Party (VDP). He emphasized the important role of VDP volunteers in maintaining security and directed officials to remove the ceiling system for their remuneration. Additionally, he instructed timely procurement of items needed by the VDPs for effective functioning.

The Chief Minister also discussed proposals to remove budgetary ceilings on key infrastructure projects to prevent delays and ensure timely completion. He urged officials to expand the list of projects eligible for ceiling-free status to maximize the number of operational PWD (B) infrastructure projects.

On another note, Sarma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for releasing the 17th instalment of the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi on June 18th, benefiting 9.26 crore farmers nationwide. In Assam alone, Rs 350 crores were disbursed to 17.5 lakh beneficiaries. The PM-KISAN scheme, launched in 2019, provides Rs 6,000 annually to farmers in three equal installments. Till now, over Rs 3.04 lakh crores has been disbursed to more than 11 crore farmers across the nation.
