Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Distributes Free Hearing Aids on Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s Birth Anniversary
Guwahati (Assam), September 25: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended a free hearing aid distribution camp organized by the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation and the National Health Mission (NHM), Assam, at the Assam Water Centre in Guwahati. The event provided free hearing aids to 200 financially disadvantaged individuals, including children from various districts.
CM Sarma highlighted that the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation was established in honor of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, a humanitarian and philosopher. The distribution marked Upadhyaya’s 109th birth anniversary, celebrating his philosophy of Antyodaya, which focuses on uplifting the most marginalized individuals in society.
The Chief Minister thanked Regula Ramanjaneyulu, founder and chairman of the Deen Dayal Sravana Foundation, and other stakeholders, including Coal India Limited, for their support. He emphasized the importance of early identification and intervention for hearing impairments, citing WHO data that 6.30 crore people in India suffer from significant hearing loss.
CM Sarma praised the initiative’s goal of creating a hearing impairment-free India by 2047, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision. He noted that over 11,000 individuals in Andhra Pradesh and Mizoram have benefited from the foundation’s efforts. In collaboration with various organizations, 3,130 individuals have been identified to receive free hearing aids.
Today’s event was attended by several distinguished guests, including MP Bijuli Kalita Medhi, Dr. P. Ashok Babu, Dr. Lakshmanan S, K. Mere, Regula Ramanjaneyulu, and Dr. T.V. Sarvarayudu.
