Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 9: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Sunday that the BJP’s membership drive in the state has been highly successful, with 13 lakh people joining the party within a week. The drive will continue until September 25.

CM Sarma stated, “Within a week we have touched 13 lakh party membership and Assam has been able to take the position among the top five states of the country. This membership drive will be continued till September 25. Today I visited the BJP state office to take the status report of the membership drive in Guwahati city and also discussed.”

Congress’ Extended Executive Meeting

On Congress’ Extended Executive meeting, CM Sarma said, “My blessings and best wishes to them. All parties should step in and there is no objection.” Congress held an extended executive meeting in Assam to discuss their strategy for the next Assam assembly elections. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi stated, “The Congress party is going to have an important meeting of Extended Executive PCC. We will discuss issues like our strategy concerning the Assembly election and the widespread corruption in the current BJP government.”

Ripun Bora Rejoins Congress

CM Sarma also commented on Ripun Bora rejoining Congress, saying, “He (Ripun Bora) came to TMC and again went to Congress. There is no reason to drag BJP here.” Former TMC leader Ripun Bora rejoined Congress in Assam’s Charaideo, stating, “Congress is my old home and today I have returned to my home. I was in TMC for two years. The kind of environment that is there in Assam and the entire country, the need of the hour is to unite against the corrupt, fascist and anti-people BJP to uproot the BJP from Assam to make it liveable. Hence, along with 36 office bearers of the Assam state committee (TMC), I have joined Congress to strengthen it.”
