Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and BJP’s Focus on Infiltration in Jharkhand Elections

In Ranchi, Jharkhand, Assam Chief Minister and BJP co-in-charge of the Jharkhand election, Himanta Biswa Sarma, has raised concerns about infiltration in the state. He accused the Hemant Soren-led government of allowing ‘intruders’ into Jharkhand, particularly in the Santhal Pargana region. Sarma emphasized the need to address the issue of decreasing tribal populations and increasing Muslim populations, questioning the source of this demographic change.

He likened the fight against infiltrators to Lord Hanuman’s legendary act of setting Lanka on fire, suggesting a metaphorical ‘fire’ against infiltrators to restore Jharkhand’s prosperity. Sarma stated that while winning the elections is important, the primary goal is to remove infiltrators and ensure justice for women in the region.

BJP MP Nishikant Dubey echoed these sentiments, alleging that Bangladeshi infiltrators are responsible for an 11% rise in the Muslim population in Santhal Pargana. He criticized the Congress and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for prioritizing vote-bank politics over tribal welfare. Dubey asserted that the BJP will continue to address this national issue until the infiltrators are expelled.

The Jharkhand assembly elections are scheduled for November 13 and 20, with 81 seats up for grabs. Approximately 2.60 crore voters, including 11.84 lakh first-time voters, are eligible to participate in the elections.
