Assam Government Increases Dearness Allowance for Employees
The Assam Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a three per cent increase in the Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees. This raises the DA from 50 per cent to 53 per cent of their basic salary, effective retroactively from July. Employees will receive their DA arrears from December to March, with 25 per cent of the amount provided each month. The Chief Minister described this increase as a Diwali gift to the employees.
Bhasha Gaurav Saptah Celebration
The Cabinet also announced the celebration of Bhasha Gaurav Saptah, or language pride week, from November 3 to November 9, 2024. This event honors the Assamese language, which has recently been recognized as a classical language by the Union Cabinet.
Efforts Against Infiltration
Chief Minister Sarma reported that in the last two months, 138 infiltrators, identified as Rohingya Muslims, have been detected and pushed back from the state.
