Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Flood-Affected Areas in Guwahati

On Thursday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the flood-affected areas in Guwahati. He directed the Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority to take measures to drain the accumulated flood water.

Inspection of Flooded Areas

The Chief Minister visited several locations, including the Shiv Mandir sluice gate, BBC Colony from Pandu Port Road, and Pandunath Devalaya sluice gate, to assess the flood situation caused by the rising waters of the Brahmaputra River. He inspected the drains along Pandu Port Road and instructed the authorities to address the water accumulation.

Immediate Actions Ordered

At the Pandunath Devalaya sluice gate, where there is no guard wall, the Chief Minister directed the Water Resources Department to construct one promptly. He assured that steps would be taken to solve the flood problems in these areas.

Officials Present

Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika, Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sarania, Kamrup Metro DC Sumit Sattawan, and senior officials from various departments accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit.

Flood Situation in Morigaon

Earlier, Assam Agriculture Minister Atul Bora reported that the flood situation in Morigaon is grim, with three deaths and over 194 villages affected. Rs 381 crore was released to farmers under the PM Kishan Sanman Nidhi scheme’s 17th installment.

Statewide Flood Impact

Floods in Assam have claimed 46 lives, with over 16.25 lakh people affected in 29 districts. Rescue teams have been actively engaged, rescuing 8,377 people recently.
