Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Reports on Flood Situation

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a slight improvement in the flood situation in Assam. The floods have affected 28 districts and a population of 11.34 lakh across 2,208 villages.

Damage Assessment

The state government has directed District Commissioners to assess the damage. The floods have damaged:

  • 42,476.18 hectares of crop areas
  • 52 bridges
  • 922 roads
  • 40 embankments

There are around 130 relief camps set up to help the affected people.

Casualties

Six more people died on Wednesday, bringing the total death toll to 38. The recent deaths occurred in Dibrugarh, Darrang, Biswanath, and Golaghat.

Rescue Operations

Teams from NDRF, SDRF, and the Indian Airforce are engaged in rescue operations. Sufficient funds have been released to the district commissioners for relief efforts.

Worst-Hit Areas

Dhubri is the worst-hit district, affecting 223,210 people. Other severely affected districts include Darrang, Lakhimpur, Golaghat, Nalbari, Cachar, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Sonitpur, Morigaon, Majuli, Sivasagar, and Biswanath.

Rivers Above Danger Level

The water levels of the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries are flowing above the danger level in several locations, including Neamatighat, Tezpur, Dhubri, Guwahati, Goalpara, Badatighat, Sivasagar, Nanglamuraghat, Numaligarh, Kampur, Dharamtul, AP Ghat, BP Ghat, Chotabakra, Fuletrak, Gharmura, Matizuri, and Karimganj.
