Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Inspects Flood Situation in Kaziranga National Park
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited flood-affected areas in the state, including Kaziranga National Park, to assess the situation and flood preparedness. He visited these areas on Tuesday and shared updates on social media.
Relief and Rescue Operations
Sarma stated, “We are actively engaged in relief and rescue operations. Arrangements have been made for shelter, health checkups, and adequate food.” He also mentioned that Prime Minister Narendra Modi assured immediate help from the central government if needed.
Flood Impact
The flood situation in Kaziranga National Park remains severe, with five animals, including a rhino calf, dying due to the flood. Park authorities have rescued 24 wild animals so far. Floodwaters have inundated 167 out of 233 forest camps in the park.

Statewide Impact
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the death toll from the floods has risen to 38, with three more people drowning on Tuesday. Over 11.34 lakh people in 28 districts are affected, and 42,476.18 hectares of crop area are submerged. The administration has set up 489 relief camps, sheltering nearly 2.87 lakh people.
Rescue and Relief Efforts
Rescue teams, including local administration, Army, Paramilitary forces, and SDRF, have rescued nearly 2,900 people. The administration distributed essential supplies, including rice, dal, salt, mustard oil, and cattle feed, to the affected people.
Infrastructure Damage
Floodwaters have damaged 74 roads, 6 bridges, and 14 embankments, and breached 5 embankments.
