Guwahati (Assam), September 7: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Assam state government is increasing efforts to remove illegal immigrants. In a post on X, he stated, “We are intensifying efforts to remove illegal immigrants from Assam. The State Government is initiating a series of coordinated actions that include enhanced surveillance, closer coordination with central agencies, and additional deployment of force, among others.”

The Chief Minister shared data showing that from January this year, 54 illegal immigrants have been detected. Of these, 45 were sent back to their country, and nine were arrested in Karimganj. The statement highlighted the importance of detecting illegal immigrants due to potential national security threats.

CM Sarma directed the Assam Police Border Organization to take preventive measures to curb illegal migration. Measures include:

  • Strengthening border surveillance and increasing patrolling.
  • Coordinating with Border Security Force (BSF) and other central agencies.
  • Enhancing intelligence-gathering mechanisms.
  • Conducting community awareness programs.
  • Ensuring timely legal action and documentation.
  • Deploying additional forces in border districts.
  • Periodic verification of records and capturing biometrics of suspected individuals.

The Inspector General of Police (Law & Order), Assam, will issue detailed instructions to district police units for logistical support and security. All wings of the Assam Police Border Organization are directed to prioritize these tasks and submit monthly progress reports.
