Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Reviews Cotton University Upgrades and Pragyan Bharti Scheme

Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 25: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a discussion with representatives from Cotton University, including the Vice Chancellor, Registrar, and Students’ Union Members, in the presence of Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu. The meeting focused on upcoming infrastructure upgrades at the University, such as new hostel blocks and boundary wall improvements.

The new hostel blocks, costing Rs 55 crore, are planned to accommodate 350 students, but the Chief Minister has instructed changes to house 500 students. He also advised the Vice Chancellor to consult the University Executive Council before proceeding with the projects.

Additionally, the Chief Minister chaired a meeting with Education Department officials to discuss the Pragyan Bharti fee waiver scheme. He reviewed the scheme’s progress and beneficiaries, instructing officials to ensure widespread awareness and accept NFSA certificates as income proof to make the scheme accessible to all eligible students.
