Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Families of Boat Accident Victims in Goalpara

Following a tragic boat capsize in Simlitola, Goalpara district, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the families of the five victims. The accident occurred when villagers were returning from a cremation, resulting in four bodies being found and one person missing.

The Chief Minister met the families of Sujan Malakar, Jit Karmakar, Prasenjit Saha, Gouranga Malakar, and Uday Sarkar, offering his condolences and praying for the departed souls. He announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to each victim’s family and promised further assistance.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal and ex-MP Queen Oja accompanied the Chief Minister during his visit.

The flood situation in Assam has slightly improved, but over 12.33 lakh people in 24 districts are still affected. The Brahmaputra River and other rivers remain above danger levels, and over 2.95 lakh people are in relief camps. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority reported that 90 people have died due to floods, including the five from the boat capsize.
