On Friday, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inspected two flood relief camps in Dibrugarh’s Pithubor and Khowang. The camp at Pithubor Girls’ Higher Secondary School is sheltering 173 people, while the Khowang Higher Secondary School camp is housing 380 flood-affected residents.

The Chief Minister’s Office of Assam shared on social media that Sarma reviewed the daily necessities of the residents and instructed the district administration to provide essential items like medical facilities, safe drinking water, and clothing. Sarma also assured that measures would be taken to repair or rebuild the damaged homes of the flood victims.

Earlier, Sarma visited Dibrugarh town to assess the flood situation, interacting with residents and experts to find community-driven solutions. He noted that while the overall flood situation in Assam is improving, some areas still face challenges. Power has been cut in Dibrugarh for six days to prevent electrocution mishaps.

On Thursday, Sarma also visited Majuli, a river island, to check on the residents and interact with the youth. The flood situation in Assam remains critical, with 52 deaths and over 21.13 lakh people affected across 29 districts. In Morigaon district, over 55,000 people are affected, with many taking shelter on embankments and roads. The district administration reports that 194 villages remain submerged.
