Assam BJP MLA Hemanga Thakuria Confident of Winning By-Elections

Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 18: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Assam MLA Hemanga Thakuria announced on Sunday that the party and its allies are confident of winning all five seats in the upcoming by-elections. Thakuria stated, “We are very much confident that BJP and its ally parties will win all five seats. People of the state have trusted BJP, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma who works for the development of the people.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently mentioned that BJP will contest three seats, while its allies AGP and UPPL will contest in Bongaigaon and Sidli seats, respectively. Thakuria also expressed optimism about the BJP’s performance in the upcoming Panchayat elections.

Earlier, Assam BJP President Bhabesh Kalita revealed that BJP will field two candidates for the Rajya Sabha polls from Assam. Kalita said, “We will field two party candidates for the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls. Other NDA partners will help us to secure both seats.” A crucial two-day meeting of the BJP North Eastern region was held in Guwahati on August 10 and 11, where issues related to the Panchayat and Rajya Sabha polls were discussed.

Additionally, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma urged ULFA-I chief Paresh Baruah to avoid actions that could harm the state’s investment environment. This statement followed the discovery of “bomb-like substances” in eight locations after the banned ULFA (I) claimed to have planted 24 bombs across Assam.
