Assam and Mizoram Leaders Meet to Promote Peace Along Border
On August 9, 2024, leaders from Assam and Mizoram met in Aizawl to discuss and resolve their inter-state border issues. Assam’s Minister of Border Protection and Development, Atul Bora, met with Mizoram’s Home Minister, K Sapdanga, and Minister of Land, Revenue, and Settlement, B Lalchhanzova.
The meeting aimed to maintain peace and harmony along the border. A joint statement was signed by K Sapdanga and Atul Bora, reaffirming their commitment to resolving the boundary dispute. They agreed on regular meetings between Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police, joint cultural and sports events, and a zero-tolerance policy against smuggling.
The next ministerial meeting will be held in Guwahati, Assam, before March 31, 2025. Both sides emphasized the importance of cooperation from people living on both sides of the border for a peaceful resolution.
Officials from both states, including Principal Secretary GD Tripathi from Assam and Home Department Secretary Vanlalmawia from Mizoram, were present at the meeting.
