Ashok Gehlot Supports Uddhav Thackeray Amid Election Controversy

Controversy in Maharashtra Elections

In the lead-up to the Maharashtra assembly elections, a controversy has emerged involving the Election Commission of India (ECI) and Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray. After Thackeray’s helicopter landed in the Yamatwal assembly constituency, ECI officials checked his bag, sparking a debate.

Support from Ashok Gehlot

Former Rajasthan Chief Minister and Congress leader Ashok Gehlot voiced his support for Thackeray, criticizing the targeting of a party leader. Gehlot agreed with Thackeray’s questioning of whether similar checks were conducted on other political figures like Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis.

Gehlot’s Statement

Gehlot stated, “Uddhav Thackeray ji is right. If they are checking, they should inspect everyone. There’s no problem then. But to target a party leader is wrong. The Election Commission should look into this and everyone should be checked.”

Political Reactions

Gehlot also reacted to slogans by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concern over divisive rhetoric. He emphasized the importance of unity in diversity in India.

Accusations of Polarization

Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused PM Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and other BJP leaders of spreading enmity and “communal venom.” Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge criticized slogans by Modi and Adityanath, suggesting they aim to disrupt unity and assert dominance.
