Political Alliances and Election Context

Maharashtra has 288 Assembly seats, and the BJP is part of the ruling Mahayuti alliance with the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) and Ajit Pawar-led NCP. The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), consisting of the Shiv Sena (UBT), NCP (Sharad Pawar faction), and Congress, is also preparing for the elections. In the recent parliamentary elections, the MVA won 30 of Maharashtra’s 48 seats, while the BJP’s count fell to 9 from 23. Vote counting will occur on November 23.
