Asaduddin Owaisi Criticizes Omar Abdullah as Weakest CM Amid Kashmir Election Results

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi has expressed strong opinions about the recent Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. He stated that National Conference (NC) leader Omar Abdullah would be the weakest Chief Minister in Indian history. Owaisi’s remarks came after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) failed to win any seats in Kashmir, which he attributed to the people’s anger over the abolition of Article 370.

Owaisi emphasized that the election results were a decisive verdict against the BJP’s actions, noting that the BJP won 27 seats in Jammu, while Congress secured only one. The JKNC-led alliance emerged victorious with 42 seats, and Congress won six. Owaisi urged secular parties to reflect and strategize for future state assemblies.

Further, Owaisi opposed the abolition of Article 370, calling it ‘constitutionally wrong.’ He criticized the provision allowing the Lieutenant Governor (LG) to appoint five MLAs, questioning the Chief Minister’s role if the LG, appointed by the Prime Minister, holds such power. This election was the first in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 and its division into two Union Territories.
