Asaduddin Owaisi Criticizes BJP and RSS Over Emergency Period

New Delhi, India – AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi criticized the central government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Thursday. Owaisi claimed that during the Emergency period, RSS leaders did not resist but wanted the ban on their organization lifted. He posted on ‘X’, stating, ‘Speaking of #Emergency, what was the Sangh Parivar up to? Following the great tradition of Sorryvarkar’s mercy petitions, RSS was eager to please Indira Gandhi. RSS leaders did not resist, they just wanted the ban on RSS to be lifted.’

The Emergency, imposed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1975, lasted 21 months and is considered one of the most controversial periods in India’s political history. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, bringing it back into the spotlight. The RSS was banned during this period.

Earlier today, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the joint sitting of the Parliament, criticizing the imposition of the Emergency. She said, ‘Emergency was the biggest and darkest chapter of the direct attack on the Constitution. The entire country plunged into chaos during the Emergency, but the nation was victorious against such unconstitutional powers.’

Her remarks triggered reactions from leaders of the INDIA bloc. Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of using the President’s speech for political gain. Kharge wrote on his official ‘X’ account, ‘Modi Ji is trying to gain cheap applause by making the Honorable President speak lies, which the people of India have already rejected in the 2024 elections.’
