Asad Qaiser Calls for Nationwide Protests in Pakistan on July 26
Asad Qaiser, a leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has raised serious allegations against the government. He claims that PTI lawmakers are under immense pressure and being offered large sums of money to change their loyalties.
Earlier, PTI Chairman Gohar Khan accused the government of coercing PTI MPs to defect after a Supreme Court ruling on July 12. The court confirmed PTI’s eligibility for reserved seats for women and minorities, reinstating the party into parliament.
Qaiser condemned the ruling establishment for using various tactics to maintain power. In a passionate video message, he announced nationwide protests scheduled for July 26. He invited all political parties, including the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA), to join the protests.
Qaiser outlined three main objectives for the protests:
- Opposing the deteriorating law and order situation and the government’s failure to address it.
- Condemning the unlawful detention of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his spouse Bushra Bibi, and other political prisoners, as well as the illegal abduction of social workers.
- Addressing the crippling inflation that is affecting ordinary citizens, including rising costs of electricity, gasoline, and taxes.
Qaiser emphasized the inclusive nature of the protests, urging participation from all sectors of society—farmers, students, traders, and workers. The decision to mobilize these protests was made during an emergency meeting chaired by Mehmood Khan Achakzai, a prominent political figure in Balochistan.
