Arvind Kejriwal to Resign as Delhi CM, Raghav Chadha and Kailash Gahlot Speak Out
New Delhi [India], September 15: Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), announced that he will resign from his position in two days. He stated that he will not return to the CM chair until the people of Delhi declare him ‘honest’ by voting for him in the upcoming 2025 Delhi elections.
Raghav Chadha’s Statement
AAP MP Raghav Chadha expressed confidence in Kejriwal, saying, ‘Mukhyamantri ji agni-pariksha se guzarne ke liye taiyyar hai.’ He added that the people of Delhi will decide Kejriwal’s honesty through their votes in the 2025 elections.
Kailash Gahlot’s Remarks
Delhi Minister Kailash Gahlot echoed Chadha’s sentiments, stating that Kejriwal has left it to the people to decide his and the party’s honesty. He emphasized that no discussions about dissolving the Assembly have taken place.
Congress Leader Sandeep Dikshit’s Reaction
Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit criticized Kejriwal’s resignation as a ‘gimmick.’ He pointed out that this is the first time an elected leader, who was released on bail, has been asked by the Supreme Court not to go to the Chief Minister’s Office or sign any papers.
Kejriwal’s Future Plans
Kejriwal mentioned that he would ask for early elections to be held in November, alongside Maharashtra’s elections. He stated that until the elections, another party member would take over as Chief Minister. A meeting of AAP MLAs will be held in the next 2-3 days to decide the interim CM.
Upcoming Elections
The Delhi Assembly elections are expected to be held in early 2025. In the 2020 elections, AAP won 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP secured eight seats. The Congress did not win any seats.
