Arunachal Pradesh Wins First-Ever Assam Rifles Women’s Football Tournament
The Assam Rifles organized the first-ever Assam Rifles Annual Women’s Football Tournament, known as the ‘Sentinels Cup,’ for teams from northeastern India. The tournament began on June 30, 2024, in Lokra, Assam, and concluded with a final match in Shillong, Meghalaya.
Seven women’s football teams from Meghalaya, Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, and Assam Rifles participated. The semifinals saw Assam Rifles face Nagaland and Assam compete against Arunachal Pradesh.
The final match, held at the Laitkor Garrison in Shillong, was a thrilling contest between Assam Rifles and Arunachal Pradesh. The team from Arunachal Pradesh emerged victorious after a nail-biting match that extended into extra time.
The event was graced by Lieutenant General P C Nair, Director General of Assam Rifles, and other dignitaries. Spectators enjoyed high-quality football from the skilled and motivated players.
