Arunachal CM Pema Khandu Opens Aqua Excellence Centre in Tippi

On August 14, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu inaugurated the Aqua Excellence Centre of the National Institute of Mountaineering and Adventure Sports (NIMAS) in Tippi. NIMAS, under the Defence Ministry, provides world-class training in land, aero, and aqua adventure sports.

Khandu highlighted the potential for water adventure sports in Arunachal Pradesh, such as river rafting, kayaking, and scuba diving. He expressed optimism that NIMAS would help develop the state as a major adventure tourism destination.

The Chief Minister praised NIMAS Director Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal for utilizing a previously unused building and the Tourism department for renovating it with a budget of Rs 95 lakhs. He also commended the ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga’ team for their achievement in scaling the highest peaks of each Indian state.

Khandu flagged off the Mount Gorichen Massif Expedition and suggested exploring adventure tourism opportunities similar to those of Mount Everest. He also released a coffee-table book and a video documentary on the ‘Har Shikhar Tiranga Mission’.

Local MLA Tenzin Nyima Glow, Director of Tourism K N Damo, and other officials and local leaders attended the event.
