Arrest in West Bengal Flogging Case: BJP Protests Against TMC

In Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal, police have arrested Amirul, an aide of Tajmul Haque, the main accused in a public flogging case. The incident, which was captured in a viral video, led to protests by the opposition BJP, who accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of implementing harsh rule.

BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul criticized the Speaker for not allowing a discussion on the issue in the Assembly. She stated, “Our question to the Speaker is that if you have permitted the TMC to agitate, why would you not permit us? We are not agitating in support of Sheikh Shahjahan. We are agitating in support of the women of West Bengal and protesting against their oppression.”

Chopra MLA Hamidul Rahaman condemned the incident but also criticized the woman’s actions, saying, “We condemn the incident. But the woman also did wrong. She left her husband, son, and daughter and became an evil beast. There is some code and justice according to Muslim rashtra. However, we do agree that what happened was a bit extreme.” Rahaman denied any party ties with Haque.
