Arjun Munda Assures Tribals Unaffected by Uniform Civil Code in Jharkhand
In Chaibasa, Jharkhand, BJP leader and former Chief Minister Arjun Munda emphasized that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) will not impact tribal communities. He reiterated Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statement that tribal rights, laws, and customs will remain protected. Munda addressed concerns about potential harm to tribals, assuring their constitutional systems will be preserved.
On Sunday, Amit Shah released the BJP’s manifesto, promising to implement UCC in Jharkhand while preserving tribal identity. He also mentioned plans to address infiltration from Bangladesh. Shah outlined 25 resolutions to celebrate 25 years of Jharkhand’s formation.
Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren opposed the BJP’s plans, stating that the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and UCC would not be effective in the state. Soren highlighted the importance of local laws like the Chota Nagpur Tenancy Act and the Santhal Pargana Tenancy Act. He also introduced the Guruji credit card scheme, offering loans up to Rs 15 lakh for students aspiring to become professionals.
The Jharkhand Assembly elections will take place in two phases on November 13 and 20, with results announced on November 23.
