Anush Agarwalla’s Historic Ride at Paris Olympics
Anush Agarwalla made history for India by becoming the first Indian to complete a dressage routine at the Paris Olympics. Competing with his horse, Sir Caramello Old, he finished ninth in Group E with a score of 68.444. Despite his efforts, he did not qualify for the final.
Denmark’s Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour topped the group with a score of 80.792, followed by Germany’s Isabel Werth with 79.363, and Great Britain’s Charlotte with 78.913 points. Norway’s Isabel secured the fourth spot with 76.397 points.
The top two athletes from each group and the six athletes with the next best scores qualified for the individual final. Although Agarwalla did not advance, he joins a prestigious list of Indian equestrians who have competed in the Olympics, including Fouaad Mirza, Imtiaz Anees, Indrajit Lamba, Jitendrajit Singh Ahluwalia, Hussain Singh, Mohammed Khan, and Darya Singh.
The Equestrian Federation of India (EFI) selected Anush Agarwalla to represent the country in the Paris Games after a careful evaluation of recent performances. Agarwalla consistently met the Minimum Eligibility Requirement four times, while his close contender, Shruti Vora, earned the required two MERs this month. Anush’s average score of 67.695 percent was better than Shruti’s 67.163 percent, securing his spot in the Olympics.
