Anurag Thakur Criticizes Congress for Parliament Disruptions Amid NEET-UG Debate
Hamirpur (Himachal Pradesh) [India], June 30: BJP MP Anurag Thakur criticized Congress on Sunday, stating that the public elected the opposition to hold discussions, but they create disruptions in Parliament. He noted that Congress has only 99 seats, and even with the entire opposition combined, BJP has more seats. Thakur urged Congress to participate in discussions rather than avoiding them.
Both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha experienced several adjournments on Friday as Congress and other opposition parties demanded a debate on the NEET-UG issue, while the government wanted to proceed with the motion of thanks on the President’s address. Consequently, both Houses were adjourned, with the Lok Sabha set to reconvene on Monday, July 1, at 11 AM.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to engage in a constructive debate on the NEET exam issue, emphasizing the anxiety it causes to many families across India. Gandhi expressed disappointment that the debate was not allowed in Parliament and urged the Prime Minister to respect the students’ concerns.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) registered a criminal case on June 23 regarding alleged irregularities in the NEET-UG and UGC-NET exams conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The NEET-UG 2024 exam, held on May 5, 2024, saw over 23 lakh candidates at 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 cities abroad. An unprecedented 67 candidates achieved a perfect score of 720 marks, leading to widespread protests.
