Indian javelin thrower Annu Rani, who holds the national record, competed in the women’s javelin throw qualification round at the Paris 2024 Olympics. She recorded throws of 55.81m, 53.22m, and 53.55m at the prestigious Stade de France. Despite her efforts, Rani’s best throw of 55.81m was not enough to secure a spot in the final, as she finished 15th in Group A, falling short of the 62.00m qualification standard.

Rani faced tough competition from global athletes, and although her throws showed skill and consistency, they did not meet the required mark for progression. This result means Rani will not advance to the women’s javelin throw final at this year’s Games. However, her participation in the Olympics remains a significant achievement, reflecting the growing presence of Indian athletes on the world stage.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, defending Olympic champion and World Championships gold medalist Neeraj Chopra registered a huge throw of 89.34 meters in Group B of the men’s javelin throw qualification round at the Paris Olympics, securing his place in the finals. Chopra’s throw was his best of the season and his second-best ever, with his top throw being 89.94 meters at the Stockholm Diamond League 2022. The final will be held on Thursday at 11:55 pm IST.
