New Delhi, India – Anjali Birla, an IRPS officer and daughter of Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, has filed a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court. She is seeking the removal of social media posts that falsely claim she passed the UPSC exams on her first attempt due to her father’s influence.

In her suit, Anjali Birla highlights that various social media posts are spreading misleading and false information about her, which she claims are defamatory. She believes these allegations are intended to unlawfully damage her reputation and standing.

The bench of Justice Navin Chawla agreed to hear the matter after Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Anjali Birla, mentioned the urgency of the case. The suit states that several individuals are attempting to destroy Anjali Birla’s professional reputation without any basis in truth, solely to create controversies against the current government.

The defendants in the suit include the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Google Inc, X Corp (formerly known as Twitter), and unknown individuals referred to as John Doe. The lawsuit aims to prevent these defendants from misusing and tarnishing the reputation of Anjali Birla and her family, including her father, Shri Om Birla, the Hon’ble Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha of India.

Anjali Birla has also filed a complaint with the Inspector General of Police, Cyber Cell, Maharashtra, against several Twitter account holders and others for offenses under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000. An FIR was registered on July 5, 2024, against X Corp and others by the Cyber Cell, Maharashtra.
