Andy Murray Withdraws from Wimbledon Singles

Focuses on Doubles with Brother Jamie

Andy Murray, a two-time Wimbledon champion, has decided to withdraw from the singles competition at Wimbledon. The three-time Grand Slam winner recently underwent back surgery, which he described as ‘not insignificant.’

Despite his efforts to compete in both singles and doubles, Murray will now focus on playing doubles with his brother Jamie. He practiced on Monday but made the final decision on Tuesday morning, just hours before his scheduled match against Czech player Tomas Machac.

Murray was given the third and last spot on Centre Court by the organizers. His team released a statement saying, ‘Unfortunately, despite working incredibly hard on his recovery since his operation just over a week ago, Andy has taken the very difficult decision not to play the singles this year.’

Although disappointed, Murray looks forward to competing in the doubles event with Jamie. He is also part of the British team for the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, where he hopes to compete in men’s doubles with Dan Evans and in singles.

David Goffin will replace Murray in the singles draw and will face Tomas Machac in the first round.
