Andhra Pradesh Minister Nadendla Manohar Helps Farmers with Rs 1000 Crore Payment
Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) [India], July 4: Andhra Pradesh Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar announced that Rs 1000 crores have been released to farmers from the Rs 1600 crores owed by the previous YSRCP government. He criticized the former government, led by YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, for leaving farmers with unpaid dues and taking loans worth Rs 36,300 crores.
Speaking to the media, Manohar said, “Even in so much distress, we were able to release Rs 1000 crore out of Rs 1600 crore, which is due to the farmers as their immediate requirement. In the coming days, we will release the balance of Rs 650 crore to the farmers to make sure that they are geared up for the next season and can cultivate their crops.”
Manohar also highlighted efforts to stop illegal rice exports and improve the Public Distribution System (PDS) for the poor. He mentioned that 35,404 metric tonnes of rice meant for PDS were seized in Kakinada, which were being illegally exported to African countries. He assured that PDS would be ensured through fair-price shop dealers.
He further emphasized that the new government in Andhra Pradesh is focused on providing benefits to farmers and consumers. “Ever since our new government has come in Andhra Pradesh, we have focused a lot on what we can do to benefit farmers as well as consumers. In the civil supplies department, we have looked at how rice procurement from farmers can be done more effectively through the use of technology and how we can reduce the payment gap for farmers,” he said.
