Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan Begins 11-Day Penance for Tirupati Laddu Controversy
Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], September 22: Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan has announced that he will undergo an 11-day initiation at Sri Dashavatara Venkateswara Swamy Temple. This decision comes in response to the alleged use of animal fat in the Tirupati Laddu Prasadam, a sacred offering at the Tirumala Temple in Tirupati.
In a post on X, the Janasena Party leader expressed his guilt for not discovering the issue earlier. He stated, “Tirumala Laddu Prasadam, which is considered to be sacred, has become impure as a result of the depraved tendencies of the past rulers. Not being able to detect this sin in the beginning is a stain on the Hindu race.”
Kalyan plans to start his penance on September 22, 2024, at the Sri Dashavatara Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Nambur, Guntur District. He will continue the initiation for 11 days before visiting Tirumala Sri Venkateswara Swamy.
He further asked for divine strength to rectify the wrongdoings of past leaders. “I beg ‘God give me the power to wash away the sins committed by past rulers against you,'” he said.
Andhra Pradesh Minister Nara Lokesh also addressed the controversy, emphasizing that “nobody will be spared.” He mentioned that the government-run lab’s analysis confirmed the presence of animal fat in the prasadam and that further steps would be taken to prevent such issues in the future.
The controversy began when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu claimed that substandard ingredients, including animal fat, were used in the preparation of Tirupati laddus during the previous Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) government.
