Amaravati, Andhra Pradesh: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has reviewed the rainfall situation in several districts of Andhra Pradesh. He has instructed the administration to be vigilant and ready for the heavy rains expected from a cyclonic storm on October 17. The CM’s office stated that Naidu advised officials to stay alert, especially in districts like Nellore, which have already received over 20 cm of rain. With the threat of flash floods, the Chief Minister emphasized the need for constant updates from flood-affected areas.

Storm Details and Precautions

According to Ronanki Kurmanath from the Meteorological Department, a depression in the southwest Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm. It is moving northwest at 10 km/h and is located 440 km from Chennai, 460 km from Puducherry, and 530 km from Nellore. The storm is expected to make landfall between Puducherry and Nellore by October 17 morning, bringing heavy to very heavy rainfall to the South Coast and Rayalaseema regions. Wind speeds along the coast could reach 40-60 km/h.

Fishermen have been advised to avoid going to sea, and the public is urged to stay alert and take necessary precautions. This weather development follows the start of the northeast monsoon rainfall over southeast peninsular India.
