Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], August 29: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting of the Labour Department on Thursday. He emphasized the importance of worker safety and welfare, directing officials to protect workers’ rights and avoid unnecessary regulations on industries.

Naidu announced that state funds will soon be released to strengthen ESI hospitals. He expressed regret that the Chandranna Bheema scheme, which was in force before 2019, was invalidated by the YSRCP government. Naidu plans to launch a new insurance scheme with an amount of Rs 10 lakh.

The Chief Minister stressed that factory management should have a perfect action plan for workforce safety. He directed Labour Department officials to take strict action against any company where accidents occur due to negligence.

Labour Minister Vasamsetti Subash informed Naidu that the number of employees using ESI services increased from five lakh to 11 lakh between 2014-19 but declined after the YSRCP came to power. Subash also reported irregularities in the YSR Bheema scheme. Naidu ordered the immediate release of the state’s pending Rs 54 crore share to ESI hospitals.

Naidu directed officials to create a scheme to provide insurance not only to the workforce but also to employment guarantee workers, farm laborers, and other sections.
