Amritsar Police Arrests 6 People and Seizes Heroin and Weapons

The Amritsar Rural Police has arrested six individuals and recovered 8 kg of heroin, three pistols, and Rs 30,000 in two separate cases, according to Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav.

In a post on ‘X’, the DGP stated, “Acting swiftly on intelligence inputs, #Amritsar Rural Police in two different cases arrested six persons and recovered 8 Kg Heroin and 3 pistols with Rs30000 drug money.” FIRs have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and further investigations are ongoing.

Earlier, the Punjab Police busted an inter-state opium smuggling syndicate operating from Jharkhand, arresting two major drug smugglers and recovering 66 kg of opium hidden in a specially designed compartment of their Maruti Swift car. The arrested individuals are Sukhyad Singh, alias Yad, and Jagraj Singh. The police also seized Rs 40,000 in drug money, 400 grams of gold, and impounded their Swift car and a tractor.

DGP Gaurav Yadav mentioned that further financial investigations led to the discovery of 42 bank accounts used by the syndicate, which have been frozen by the Fazilka Police, containing Rs 1.86 crore. The process of property forfeiture under the NDPS Act has also been initiated, and investigations are ongoing to trace further connections.
