Amritpal Singh’s mother, Balwinder Kaur, and father, Tarsem Singh, expressed their gratitude to Congress MP and former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for raising the issue of Amritpal’s imprisonment in Parliament. Kaur urged people to speak out against injustice and called for Amritpal’s release, stating that the National Security Act (NSA) had been invoked against him.

Tarsem Singh also appealed to other members to speak up for Punjab’s rights, criticizing the recent budget’s impact on the state.

Earlier, the Indian National Congress distanced itself from Channi’s remarks, with spokesperson Jairam Ramesh clarifying that Channi’s views do not reflect the party’s position. Channi had alleged an ‘undeclared emergency’ under the BJP-led government and noted that Amritpal Singh’s free speech was being curbed by the NSA.

BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala criticized Channi’s comments, questioning Rahul Gandhi and accusing Channi of supporting a pro-Khalistan separatist.
