Election Details
The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, announced that the assembly elections will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 4. There are 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, with a total of 87.09 lakh electors.
Historical Context
Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after a gap of ten years, as the last assembly election was held in 2014. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 when the BJP withdrew support from then-Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
