Amit Shah Welcomes Jammu and Kashmir Elections

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has welcomed the announcement of assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. He believes that these elections will strengthen democracy and lead to a new period of development in the region.

Encouraging Participation

Amit Shah urged the people of Jammu and Kashmir to participate actively in the elections and vote in large numbers to form a government that will ensure peace and development.

Support from BJP Leaders

Former Deputy CM of Jammu and Kashmir, Nirmal Singh, expressed his support for the elections, stating that a BJP government would bring development to the region. BJP leader Altaf Thakur also welcomed the announcement, confident that the BJP will win over 50 seats.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP President Ravinder Raina and BJP co-incharge Ashish Sood echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing the party’s commitment to development and their readiness for the elections.

Election Details

The Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, announced that the assembly elections will be held in three phases: September 18, September 25, and October 1, with the counting of votes on October 4. There are 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir, with a total of 87.09 lakh electors.

Historical Context

Jammu and Kashmir will witness elections after a gap of ten years, as the last assembly election was held in 2014. The PDP-BJP coalition government fell in June 2018 when the BJP withdrew support from then-Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.
