In New Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled a statue of Bhagwan Birsa Munda to mark his 150th birth anniversary. The event was attended by Delhi LG VK Saxena and Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. Shah praised Birsa Munda for his societal reforms and courage to oppose religious conversion during British rule. He highlighted Munda’s role in the Indian tribal freedom struggle, particularly his leadership in the “Ulgulan” rebellion against British land grabbing.

Shah also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for declaring Munda’s birth anniversary as ‘Janjatiya Gaurav Divas’ in 2021. Birsa Munda, a hero of the tribal community, inspired the Chotanagpur region to fight for independence and emphasized the importance of land ownership. He founded the Birsait faith and was known as ‘Dharti Aba’ or the father of the earth. Munda passed away at the age of 25 on June 9, 1900.
