Amit Shah to Lead Meeting on Security After Major Naxal Operation
On October 7, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will chair a meeting to discuss security and development in areas affected by left-wing extremism. This follows a significant operation where security forces eliminated 31 Naxals in the Maad area, located on the Narayanpur-Dantewada border.
Details of the Operation
The operation was a joint effort by the DRG Dantewada, DRG Narayanpur, and STF teams. They acted on intelligence about a gathering of 40 to 50 Naxalites. According to the police, a fierce gunfight ensued when the forces surrounded the Naxals in the forest.

Dantewada SP Gaurav Rai stated, “We had received information of the presence of 40-50 Naxalites who had come together for a meeting. We launched a joint operation with DRG Dantewada, DRG Narayanpur, and STF teams. When our teams surrounded the Naxalites on October 4, a heavy exchange of fire took place… Dead bodies of 31 uniformed Naxalites have been recovered along with a range of automatic weapons… This has been our biggest achievement so far… Force is returning after completing the search operation… The terrain was difficult, especially because of rain.”
DIG Kamalochan Kashyap added, “This region is considered a safe place for all Naxals. This operation was planned four days ago on receiving information about senior Naxals… 31 Naxals have been killed and heavy arms and ammunition have been recovered… Company 6 is predominantly active in this region and they are 100-150 in number.”
IG Bastar Sundarraj P confirmed, “Yesterday, an encounter broke out between Naxalites and security forces. So far, 31 dead bodies and heavy arms and ammunition have been recovered. After the search operation is completed, we will update the data.”

Earlier this year, Amit Shah expressed confidence that left-wing extremism will be eradicated from India by March 2026. He emphasized the need for a strong strategy and a decisive approach to end this threat.
