Amit Shah Praises Chhattisgarh’s Success Against Naxalism
Union Home Minister Amit Shah commended the Chhattisgarh government for its achievements in combating Naxalism. Since January, 194 Naxalites have been eliminated, 801 arrested, and 742 have surrendered. Shah urged Naxalite youth to join the mainstream, noting that 13,000 have done so in the northeast and Jammu Kashmir.
Increased Funding and Development
Shah highlighted the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme, which saw funding increase from Rs 1180 crore (2004-2014) to Rs 3,006 crore (2014-2024). The Special Central Assistance Scheme allocated Rs 3590 crore over the last decade. The number of helicopters for soldiers increased from two to twelve, and 544 fortified police stations were built in the last ten years.
Infrastructure and Education Improvements
The road network expanded from 2900 km to 11,500 km, and 15,300 mobile towers were installed, with 5139 having 4G connections. Eklavya model schools increased from 38 approved to 216, with 165 built. Rs 1000 crore was spent on air efforts, and Rs 131 crore on a trauma center in Jagdalpur.
Reduction in Violence
Violence incidents decreased from 16,463 to 7700, with civilian and security force deaths reduced by 70%. Districts reporting violence dropped from 96 to 42, and police stations from 465 to 171. Shah praised Chhattisgarh’s progress, noting villagers voting in Lok Sabha elections after thirty years.
