Amit Shah Leads Meeting with Chief Ministers to Combat Left Wing Extremism
On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lead a significant meeting at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi. This meeting will include Chief Ministers from states affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) such as Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Telangana, Odisha, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the meeting will also be attended by five Union Ministers, senior officials from central ministries, representatives from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and the Deputy National Security Advisor. The central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah, aims to eradicate LWE by March 2026.
In a previous meeting on October 6, 2023, Amit Shah provided detailed instructions for eliminating LWE. The government’s strategy has resulted in a 72% reduction in LWE violence and an 86% decrease in related deaths in 2023 compared to 2010. In 2024, security forces have achieved significant success, eliminating 202 LWE cadres, with 723 surrendering and 812 arrested. The number of LWE-affected districts has decreased to 38.
The government has also focused on improving infrastructure, constructing 14,400 km of roads and installing nearly 6,000 mobile towers in affected areas to support development.
