Amit Shah Leads Meeting to Strengthen India’s Security and Fight Against Terrorism
Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting on Friday with the heads of security and law enforcement agencies to review the functioning of the Multi-Agency Centre (MAC) of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The IB is responsible for tackling security challenges in the country.
During the meeting, Shah instructed intelligence agencies to adopt a ‘whole-of-the-government’ approach towards national security. He stressed the importance of building greater synergy between all agencies to dismantle terror networks and their supporting ecosystems.
Shah emphasized the need to strengthen the MAC to fight against terrorism, making it a cohesive platform that brings together all law enforcement, anti-drug, cyber security, and intelligence agencies for decisive and prompt action. He stated, ‘MAC has earned the trust of its constituents and it must continue to work 24X7 as a platform for proactive and real-time sharing of actionable intelligence.’
He also called for a team of young, technically proficient officers from all agencies involved in national security to use Big Data and AI-driven analytics to dismantle the terror ecosystem. Shah reiterated the need to stay one step ahead in response to new and emerging security challenges.
Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the MAC framework is set to undergo a major technical and operational revamp to increase its reach and effectiveness. Shah urged all stakeholders to bolster these efforts through prompt responses and aggressive follow-up of shared inputs.
Earlier, Shah directed agencies, police, and departments under the Central and State governments to adopt a ‘ruthless’ approach towards the drug supply chain, emphasizing the need to prevent drugs from entering the country and ensuring that India’s borders are not used for drug trafficking. This directive was given during the 7th Apex Level Meeting of the Narco-Coordination Center (NCORD) in the presence of chiefs of various central and state agencies.
