Amit Shah Leads Meeting on Flood Management in India

Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level meeting in New Delhi to review the country’s flood management preparedness. The meeting was attended by Union Minister of Jai Shakti, C R Patil, Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai, and senior officials from various ministries and departments.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Home Affairs in North Block. States like Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Sikkim often face landslides and rain-related issues during the monsoon season. Currently, Assam is experiencing severe floods, affecting nearly 3 lakh people across 19 districts. Cyclone Remal has worsened the situation, causing intense rainfall and flooding, resulting in over 29 deaths.

In Assam’s Nagaon district, floods have severely impacted nearly 6,000 people, submerged 35 villages, and affected 1,089 hectares of crop area. The Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) reported that more than 2.43 lakh people have been affected in Karimganj district alone. Overall, 979 villages in 19 districts have been affected, with 3,326.31 hectares of crop area submerged.
