Amit Shah in Raipur: Modi Government’s Final Push Against Left-Wing Extremism
Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], August 24: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced today that left-wing extremism is the biggest challenge to India’s democratic system. He emphasized that the government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is committed to eradicating it.
Final Phase of the Fight
Speaking at a press conference in Raipur, Amit Shah stated that the fight against left-wing extremism is in its last phase. He declared that left-wing extremism will be completely eradicated from the country before March 2026.
Development Over Extremism
Amit Shah highlighted that the Modi government has instilled confidence in development over extremist ideologies. He urged the youth involved in extremism to abandon violence and join the country’s development efforts.

Shah noted that many states have been almost completely freed from left-wing extremism between 2019 and 2024. He pointed out that in 2022, deaths due to left-wing violence fell below 100 for the first time in four decades. The number of violent incidents has also decreased significantly.

The ‘Bastariya Battalion’ was raised in 2017, recruiting 400 tribal soldiers from the Bastar region. Shah mentioned that security forces are also monitoring development works in affected areas. The Chhattisgarh government aims to achieve 100% saturation of all government schemes by March 2025 and will introduce a new surrender policy for youth to join mainstream development.
Educational Campaign
The Home Ministry and the Chhattisgarh Government will jointly run a campaign to educate people who have remained illiterate due to left-wing extremism.
