Amit Shah Denies Omar Abdullah’s Claims on Jammu and Kashmir Governance Changes
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs has dismissed allegations made by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah. Abdullah claimed that there was a proposal to change the transaction of business rules in Jammu and Kashmir, reducing the Chief Minister’s powers in favor of the Lieutenant Governor. Omar Abdullah had accused the BJP of attempting to alter government procedures due to anticipated electoral defeat. He urged officers to resist any pressure to disempower the incoming elected government.
The Election Commission of India reported a voter turnout of 63.88% in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections, with the third phase seeing a 69.69% turnout. The elections were contested by the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Congress as partners, while the PDP and BJP ran independently. Vote counting is scheduled for October 8.
