Amit Shah Calls for Stronger Anti-Terrorism Efforts at National Security Conference in Delhi
Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation Amit Shah emphasized the need for increased cooperation and coordination between the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and State Anti-Terrorist Squads (ATSs) to strengthen the counter-terrorism architecture. Speaking on the second day of the National Security Strategies Conference 2024 in New Delhi, Shah proposed a detailed strategy to augment counter-terrorism efforts, including cooperation with international agencies and enhanced capacities to prevent terror financing.
Shah expressed satisfaction with the success in anti-Maoist efforts but cautioned states to maintain vigilance in areas recently freed from armed formations. He appealed to state DGPs to work towards achieving Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a prosperous, strong, and developed India by 2047. Shah highlighted substantial progress in solving legacy national security concerns such as Jammu & Kashmir, Left Wing Extremism (LWE), and the North-East, and stressed the need to address emerging challenges like narcotics, rogue drones, and online fraud.
Regarding the implementation of three new criminal laws, Shah urged DGPs to protect citizens’ constitutional rights and ensure speedy justice for victims. He emphasized that the transformative impact of the new laws could be achieved through a change in mindset, adoption of technology, and seamless coordination. Shah directed DGsP to form teams of young police officers to implement the new laws effectively and to combat fraudulent financial transactions, including crypto and hawala. He called for a multi-dimensional approach, data analytics, and new techniques to strengthen internal security.
