Central Government Approves Rs 40 Crore Relief for Flood-Affected Tripura
New Delhi, August 23: The central government has approved the release of Rs 40 crore in advance to help the flood-affected people of Tripura. Union Home Minister Amit Shah made the announcement on social media, stating that the funds are part of the central share from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF).
Relief Efforts Underway
Shah mentioned that 11 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams, three columns of the Army, and four helicopters of the Air Force are already assisting in relief and rescue operations. He assured the people of Tripura that the Modi government stands with them during these difficult times.
Chief Minister’s Response
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed gratitude to the central government for the support. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for their assistance, which he said is helping the state fight the tough situation.
Indian Army’s Role
The Indian Army has rescued over 330 civilians during extensive Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operations. Two columns from the 18 Assam Rifles have been deployed across the flood-affected areas of Amarpur, Bhampur, Bishalgarh, and Ramnagar. The Army also provided medical aid to seven civilians.
Chief Minister’s Visit
On Friday, Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the flood-affected areas of Udaipur in the Gomati district. He assessed the damage and ensured that aid reaches those in need. The CM also inspected relief camps and reviewed their management.
Current Situation
The Gomati River is still flowing above the extreme danger level, and many citizens are staying in relief camps. The state administration has shifted families living on the riverbanks to safer areas. Essential food items are being air-dropped using MI-17 helicopters for the severely affected people in Amarpur and Karbook.
The state government is constantly monitoring the situation and has taken initiatives to rescue and provide relief to the affected people. Chief Minister Saha inspected a shelter house and assured the people of the government’s support. The State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC) is maintaining regular contact with rescue personnel.
