Amit Shah Announces Creation of Five New Districts in Ladakh
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has announced the creation of five new districts in Ladakh. These districts are Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang. A committee will be formed to evaluate various aspects such as headquarters, boundaries, and structure, and will submit its report within three months.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah shared this news on X, stating that this move is part of a broader effort to enhance development and governance in Ladakh. The new districts aim to bring governance and development directly to the people’s doorsteps.
This decision comes almost five years after Ladakh was established as a Union Territory on October 31, 2019, following the passage of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act. Before 2019, Ladakh was part of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The creation of these new districts will increase the total number of districts in Ladakh to seven.
Shah emphasized that the Modi government is committed to creating abundant opportunities for the people of Ladakh, ensuring that the benefits of progress reach every corner of the region.
