Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh Express Grief Over Kerala Landslides, Rescue Operations Underway
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh expressed their condolences for the victims of the landslides in Wayanad, Kerala. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Army are conducting rescue operations.
Details of the Incident
Massive landslides hit the Meppadi area in Wayanad following torrential rains. Kerala Health Minister Veena George reported that 24 bodies have been received in different hospitals, and around 70 people are injured. Proper treatment is being ensured for the injured.
Rescue Operations
The NDRF and Civil Defence teams are present, and a Navy team is on its way. A bridge in the area has also washed away. A total of 225 Army personnel have been deployed for rescue operations. The Army has mobilized four columns, including medical personnel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. He assured all possible help from the Centre. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan are coordinating relief efforts.

A special control room has been set up by the district administration at the police headquarters in Thiruvananthapuram. The public can provide information to the 24-hour control room. The State Health Department has opened a district-level control room for emergency health services.
