Alyssa Healy’s Injury Sidelines Her in Women’s T20 World Cup Semi-Finals

Australia’s cricket captain, Alyssa Healy, suffered a significant injury that kept her from playing in the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals against South Africa. Healy ruptured her plantar fascia, an injury that forced her to use crutches during the final group stage game against India in Sharjah. Despite hopes for her return, it was decided not to risk her participation in the semi-final, which Australia lost by 8 wickets.

Healy explained, “It’s a bit sore. I ruptured my plantar fascia. I completely ruptured one and partially ruptured the other. It was just a matter of function and pain and what I could handle.” She made the tough decision to sit out, prioritizing the team’s needs over personal ambition.

Her future participation in the Women’s Big Bash League and India’s tour of Australia remains uncertain. Healy stated, “I don’t know yet. We’ll assess that when we get back. WBBL starts next Sunday, so we’ll reassess that as we go.”

Despite the setback, Healy focused on the positives from the tournament, acknowledging the team’s strong performance. “It was hard to watch, knowing that you can’t really go out there and help. But it was good to see so many positives throughout the tournament,” she said.
