In Zirakpur, Punjab, a special Ramleela performance called ‘Mahila Dwara Ramleela’ was held with an all-women cast. Pratibha Singh, who played Lord Ram, shared that the cast ranged from a 6-month-old child to an 82-year-old artist. She highlighted the unique aspect of women performing Ramleela, which has drawn significant attention. The performance follows strict backstage protocols, including no shoes or food on stage. Pratibha mentioned that her role as Lord Ram requires 40 minutes of makeup and that rehearsals started a month ago. She has been part of this Ramleela for three years, finding it easier now to embody the reserved character of Lord Ram.

Lalit Mohan, who initiated this Ramleela, has been involved since 1975. He noted that makeup for characters like Raavan, Janak, and Dasharath takes the longest, with 50 artists participating this year. The final scene concludes at 10:30 PM. Makeup artist Sanjay Verma explained the challenge of transforming women into male characters.

The festival season in India has begun, with events like Navratri, Ramleela, Garba, and Dandiya expected to generate significant business. Over 1 lakh events will be organized, providing employment to millions. Major celebrations will continue with Vijayadashami, Durga Visarjan, Diwali, and Chhath Puja. Delhi will host over 1,000 Ramleelas and numerous Durga Puja pandals, while Garba and Dandiya will see participation across the country.
